Installing your EV charging point

As a driver in Wrexham you only have access to a limited number of charging points, all of which require you to be parked for up to an hour. This makes planning your journey more of a challenge.

On the other hand drivers with their own charging point can tailor consumption around their journey. Making driving more efficient and even reducing charge time by up to 60%.

Picking your EV home charger

Which charger best suits your car

When choosing a charging point it’s important to consider your desired charging time as well as your cars compatibility. Currently there are three charger types available Slow, Fast and Rapid.

All three types have relative power outputs which determine their charging speed. For instance, a slow charger may take 6-12 hours to charge, while a rapid charger could achieve the same in under 30 minutes.

The most common home charger will have an output of 7 kW and comes with a Type 1 or Type 2 adaptor. However not all cars will support this output which makes it even more important to check your cars requirements. The Nissan Leaf comes with two connectors, a 3-pin to Type 1 and a Type 2 to Type 1, making it compatible with most EV chargers.

The last thing you need to consider is whether you need a Tethered or Untethered charger. Once again this will depend on the type of electric car you own.
